Marilyn's Nightclub
Marilyn's Nightclub has been alive and kicking since 1985. We've seen the transitions in music going for over 30 years now!
We love to see people enjoy a party and invite a lot of artists and musicians to come have a gig at ours. Marilyn's Nightclub has been open for 33 years and it's still going strong. We have had so many fantastic nights its hard to remember them all, however a few really stand out;
One day in 1985 a friend of mine called me to say that Hercules the Grizzly Bear was opening a new club in Blackpool so I called the agent and booked him for Marilyn's. It was an amazing night we really shocked everyone when a real Grizzly Bear walked in through the side doors and onto the dance floor, everyone just ran for it !! After a few minutes people started looking round the corners and slowly coming back around the dance floor. Andy his owner was a professional wrestler and he started wrestling with the bear on the dance floor. Then we got the customers sitting on Hercules lap and having their photos taken. He was only in the club for 25 minutes but he must of really liked the place because when they tried to take him out he refused to go he just sat on the dance floor looking at the lights. Eventually Maggie his owner got him some food and he followed her out to his bus. Sadly we are not able to do things like that anymore it was an unforgettable night.
We held the World record in the late 80's for jumping over cars when one of our doormen Joe Delany drove a Marilyn's sponsored V8 Rover at 170 mph up a ramp at Long Marston and jumped into the Guinness Book of Records breaking his leg in the process.
In 1987 we were awarded the BEDA best small club in the UK and I was very proud to go to London and collect the award.
Britain's best ever pub band Doctor Feelgood there a couple of times, Edwin Starr came and sang "War" one of his big hits. Ant and Dec made an appearance many years ago before they hit the big time on I'm a Celebrity and Saturday Night. D Ream appeared when Dr Brian Cox was their lead singer, he was a star before he started stargazing.
Mark Wright, Boy George, The Dream Boys, Tom Orchante, Marc Oberon, Coolio, Ian Van Dahl, Toyah Willcox, I could go on and on but we have had hundreds of the top DJs and celebrities from the UK and Overseas and we will continue doing our very best to entertain all of our friends in the future. We have some great nights planned so here is looking forward to the next 33 years. Cheers!
