A venue where keeping music live comes first!

The Greyhound

History
In 2006 Paul Slater took on The Greyhound in Beeston, Nottingham with the intention of turning it into a great live music venue. He had a huge task turning this once run down pub into the warm, friendly, fun-packed entertainment venue that it became known for in such a short time.
The Greyhound was increasingly popular with locals, families, students and musicians alike, with secure parking at the rear of the building for those travelling from afar. Add to this award winning beers, great atmosphere and live music and you can’t go wrong. Or so we thought........ Unfortunately Paul became seriously ill and was diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2013 and had to retire from The Greyhound.
The venue was at this point was taken over by a company who lacked the passion and understanding of what made this venue great so within no time at all it became a shadow of its former self. Finally at the end of 2015 The Greyhound closed its doors…….
Thankfully it was at this point that two former friends and employees of Paul decided to get their heads together to see if it was possible to take on the venue and return it to its former glory. Lil and Rob started putting plans together and in April 2016 opened the venue once more. This was again an uphill struggle but with their drive and commitment to this small venue within no time at all The Greyhound was back on the scene. Within 18 months they had turned the place around, with people traveling from as far as Birmingham, Sheffield and Derby regularly to see the bands. The list of bands wishing to play at this venue also grew with bands not only from al over the Uk but from Europe and America too. The Greyhound was finally back where it should be, a great popular venue with an amazing atmosphere. Unfortunately, the lack of support from the brewery, increased business rates and rent, it became clear the venue could not continue without going bust. Lil and Rob were unwilling to sign another contract with the brewery and were given a leaving date the beginning of November 2017.
This may have been the end of The Greyhound as a music venue but neither Lil or Rob had any intention of giving up on keeping the music live. Since the closing of the venue both Lil and Rob have been in talks with several possible investors and searched the Nottingham area for a possible new music venue. Hopefully we’ll have a new home for all our family of supporters and bands to meet up again soon.
