Red Light Roastery: The first small batch, craft coffee roastery in Hot Springs National Park, Arkansas
Coffee is loved by so many for just as many reasons. To wake up, something to drink with friends, a special treat. You can make coffee as simple or as complex as you desire. Buy it pre ground, scoop it, add hot water, BAM, coffee. Buy it whole bean from the spot in the world that you choose, grind it by hand in a mortar and pestle, heat your water over a fire to the perfect temperature, put the two together in such a way that make your cup the best that it can be.
Confession time: I've never been reliant on a morning cup of coffee as a stimulant and never really liked coffee to be perfectly honest. UNTIL, last year when I had a single origin dark roast from Guatemala. It had an amazing complexity that I never really sensed from another cup of coffee. I found some similarities of flavor that I have sensed in some great craft beers. Then I tried some medium and light roasts that possessed a completely different flavor profile than a dark roast. I started researching home roasting. It was intriguing to me that I can take a raw bean, apply heat over time and find that particular bean's full potential of flavor and feeling. SO, instead of obsessing over a new hobby that might take away from my current home brewing hobby, I decided to take a leap into the coffee business. We started with a small, 1kg commercial roaster that got us started on this adventure. Now I have a 10kg roaster and have built a roastery that is loosely based on my hobby of brewing beer. I start with the best ingredients that I can find and create a final product that pleases me. Then I offer it to you. There will be a lot of experimentation with green coffee bean conditioning prior to roasting to enhance the bean's final flavor profile. Like aging a stout or porter in a bourbon barrel to add to its complexity and flavor experience.
So check in with us from time to time, message me if you have any questions, and stop by 1003 Park Avenue to check out our progress.
Cheers!
