The Kraken is the latest and greatest reincarnation of a local gathering space that started out many decades ago on what was originally a dirt road between Chapel Hill and Greensboro. It's a rare historic Roadhouse venue that still survives and thrives!
We're located at the intersection of NC Highway 54 West and Dodson Crossroads, just a few miles west of downtown Carrboro and Chapel Hill and just a few miles east of scenic Saxapahaw. We're easily accessible from both the Triangle and the Triad, and surprisingly convenient to further NC hotbeds of talent such as Asheville, Boone, Greenville, and Wilmington.
The venue has been a bar in recent decades, under such names such as The Lil' Bar, Booger's, and Catahoula's, but all of those pale to the current, friendly and rocking venue to which our friend Eric donated his heart and soul. He birthed The Kraken in 2009, and entrusted Jody and Kirk to nourish and grow the bar just after its 5th year anniversary.
You will find the same friendly Kraken staff, the best front porch in town, free pool, great bands on the weekends (no cover charges) and everything else you've grown to love such as big screen projections of the most popular tv/movie/sporting events. We like to say that we have the most character and characters in the area.
Stop by and meet great people and exchange your funniest and wildest stories on the best porch in the Triangle, soak up solid wifi, AC/heat, dance to fine music, and have an all-round great time! If you're one of the thousands of people who pass by The Kraken every day on the way to or from work, just pop in for a moment and get out of the frustrating traffic on Highway 54. We simply ask you to enjoy yourself, and tip the bartenders and bands generously!
We're open seven days a week, starting at 3pm. On slow nights during the week, we may close earlier than our regular 2am cutoff. We will gauge attendance by 10pm to Midnight on weekdays, depending on the weather and time of year.
