Sometimes you can find the most enjoyable experiences in the places you least expect to find them. Near the junction where the motorways from Sassari and Olbia meet to continue together towards Cagliari lies Ghilarza, an unremarkable village. Its shopping centre, right next to the motorway exit, looks like a dull warehouse. The kind of place that no tourist would normally go near. However, hidden in it lies an exceptional café. Two young stone masons from the village have let their imagination run riot and filled the place both fantastic and beautiful stone art – tables, basins, statues, clocks, even a stone car. And they sell the stuff too! That the service is good and their croissants are fresh is of course an added bonus making it well worth a visit.
