The Milton General Store, circa 1835 is one of the oldest commercial buildings in Milton. It started out as a dry goods store owned by the Watkins family and purchased by Walter Lea Thomas in 1912.

The store partially burned in 1916 and was repaired with a different roof line. At this time, the Post Office was located in one corner of the store. In 1930,ownership of the store passed to a son Charles Randolph Thomas who sold it to another brother, Edmond Dixon Thomas in the 1940's. He operated the store until 1972 when he decided to close its doors.

The Milton General Store was then used as storage and a wood working shop for several years and fell into disrepair.

In 1991, restoration was begun by Sally Thomas Wallace, daughter of Edmond Thomas and the granddaughter of Walter Thomas.

Milton General Store operates today as an antique and gift store, which also now houses a Cafe and is located on the main street of town, across from the Union Tavern/ Thomas Day House.
