The Spar Supermarket which exists today in Ballingarry originated in the 1940s as two roadside petrol pumps!
In 1984, Donie and Ruth O' Grady took over the family business and opened a grocery store in Ballingarry village.
This store was expanded to 280 sq feet in 1985 and then just four years later the store was moved to its current location and Spar Ballingarry was born.
Donie and Ruth chose to join the Spar group as the area of the village which the shop is located is known as The Sparr, meaning "the spurr of the hill".
The store was revamped in 1992 providing employment to 14 staff and standing at 2,450 square feet-a far cry from the stores inception.
The most recent development of Spar Ballingarry took place in 2009 with the store almost doubling in size and also the addition of three retail units to the premises. Currently, Spar Ballingarry has 20 employees and provides a wide range of services to the local community including:
