Legend of M

The eighties. It was early evening of 28 May 1985. The Street of Istarskog razvoda and The 8th March Street were crowded with a bunch of handsome people, with clinking of glasses, murmur of voices, laughter and good music everywhere. It was the opening night of the cafe bar “Marlboro“ and immediately its fame began to spread in an unstoppable tide. That very night the legend was born.

“Marlboro“ was not just another cafe among the restaurant&bar facilities of Porec. Instead, it was a meeting point that had made a kind of revolution in tourism of the town of Porec and Istrian peninsula. The only place back there offering its guests cocktails, a wide range of whiskies, French cognacs... A place with captivating style. Passing through the door of “Marlboro”, a guest would walk into the adventure of the Wild West. Smitten by the view to the leather saddle, saddlebags, boots, photos of Butch Cassidy, John Wesley, John Chisum, Billy the Kid, Wyatt Earp, Wild Bill Hickok, impressed by the gallows, by authentic duels, cattle branding and others colors of the masculine Wild West world, the guest would find himself in front of a black, semicircular wooden bar with an old mechanical cash register and an even older phone. The blurring voices of Johnny Cash, Eric Clapton, Cat Stevens, Bob Dylan, JJ Cale... coming from the speakers would carry the newcomer far away from their daily life thoughts.

The fame of “Marlboro”, as well as of his tireless owner who had brought innovations to the bar offer in Porec, started spreading across the former Yugoslavia up to the guests coming from Europe and from around the world. Different and better became a distinctive feature of “Marlboro”.

Whether for the reason of its image, or for its music, or the atmosphere and high standards of service imposed by “Marlboro“ and its owner Miro Vukušić, or just for the blend of all of it – its guests turned out to be irresistibly attracted to “Marlboro“. It became and for years has remained one of the most popular gathering places and shelter visited by artists as well as the high-class people, bohemians and businesspersons, movie directors and producers. Therefore, many attractive advertisements and documentaries and tourist films of the former state had been set at “Marlboro”. Distinctive murmur, the all-year day-and-night crowd outside the cafe in 1996 eventually shut down. The favorite cafe has closed.

With the pass of time, the recognizable emblem of the city fall buried in memories. However, since “Marlboro” has grown into an urban legend, for years people from around the world kept coming to Porec looking for a bar they used to hear stories about but had never seen it. Then, almost two decades after the popular all-day bustle, from the Street of Istarskog razvoda the news spread that in the place of the iconic “Marlboro” a new place was opening by the same owner.

The news spread as vigorously as before and pub opened its door to the old friends and interesting new faces, new generations – being more spacious now, having in its atmosphere the spirit of the present time, visually attractive, in recently popular industrial vintage style - and with the new name - “Legend of M“.

At the same time robust in detail of its massive, dark wood and oxidized steel, mystical in shades and marble and very comfortable by its choice of sofas, its relaxing atmosphere and discreet service, “Legend of M” offers its visitors a new sensation. It brings back the former glory of “Marlboro” and that memorable sparkle to this beautiful part of the town. Together with a wide variety of exquisite traditional drinks, good music and a pleasant atmosphere, today it offers its guests small, domestic and selected meals of a pure gastronomic pleasure.

You’ve just entered into the legend..
