Situated at the edge of the North Laines on Trafalgar Street sits B&R Cafe, a quaint little tea room stocked with glorious tea, coffee and best of all, cake! Just looking through the window is like looking into a painting.
Delicate lace table cloths cloak the wooden tables, each with their own stash of brown and white sugar cubes. There is a vintage two-seater sofa that is so elegant it seems more like decoration rather than something you would sit in.
Walking into the Cafe, I am immediately hit by its charm. Jazz plays faintly in the background, and I am drawn to the old-style black boards that hang behind the counter. This isn’t a place to have a three-course meal, but it is clear that their specialty is tea as there is a whole black-board listing eight different types. After resisting the urge to have a try of one of the cakes or pastries that line the counter, a friend and I settle for a ‘full English’ pot of tea for two and take a seat by the window.
This window covers the entire front of the Cafe, and we have a great view of the street- who doesn’t like a bit of people watching?There is a green square opposite, perfect for bird watching, and there is a cute vintage clothes shop where you can window shop from far.
Our tea comes in a fancy looking pot, and I’m pleasantly surprised to find loose leaf tea sitting inside the strainer- certainly better than a boring old tea bag! My tea cup is made of beautiful green bone china, perfectly fitting with the old English tearoom feel. We sit here for at least an hour, taking in the decor and feeling of comfort this little cafe gives off. I feel I could quite happily sit here for ages.
