At the gateway of Manjimup in the South West, Peter Tagliaferri former Mayor of Fremantle from 2001 too 2009 bought the run down complex in 2012. Which included a stripper room, skimpy run bar, 15 run down rooms with room 15 being a meth lab! The Tagliaferri family shut down the complex to begin their renovations on the hotel. Converting the skimpy run bar to a wine bar that focuses on selling local wines from the South West region and also converting it into a Thirsty Camel drive thru bottle shop which competes with metro pricing. They then converted the stripper room into a two bedroom family self-contained unit. The family have not only renovated all the rooms with a modern touch but have added on rooms to the hotel; a one bedroom self-contained unit, disabled unit and 4 new king single rooms. The renovations at the hotel have taken over a year to complete and done so using local labourers from; Sarinis plumbing, Pinelli, Nevi Steel, Parrella steel, decampos transport, Pesce concrete to McGinty & Warren Electrics..
The restaurant has been transformed from pub grub, to a menu that uses local produce and complimented with quality service in a newly renovated restaurant.
At the Gateway we are all about the food experience, having a wide range of speciality foods available which use local produce. The family have recently started doing wood fired in their new marquee area which has been furnished with pallet furniture created from Warren Bin pallets (locally).
Being from Italian heritage Peter had to have his very own herb garden; basil, rosemary, apples, cherries, lemons, artichokes, plums, olive and asparagus which is used on the menu.
Peter is enjoying being semi retried down in Manjimup and the family are looking forward to using their new gelato machine in summer which will include; cherry gelato, truffle and pear ice cream and other flavours from the south west !
The Manjimup Gateway Hotel is a family run business that is more than a hotel, more than a restaurant or venue for functions, it’s the perfect spot to enjoy some delicious home cooked food.
