The town of Volcan is an undiscovered jewel at an altitude of 1200 meters (3600 feet) above sea level in the mountainous region of Panama close to the extinct Barú volcano. The locals enjoys a comfortable year round climate ideal for retirement living.
The combination of a moderate climate and fertile soil offers an ideal environment for agricultural development. Coffee, vegetables, exotic fruits, exuberant flowers of rainbow colors (birds of paradise, lilies, anturions, alstromelias, inpatients etc.) are cultivated locally.
There is also archeological sites close by (Barriles) which are well worth exploring.
