Shabby Chic ♥ was founded on July 17, 2010 by Shiela Andrea Cang and Maryfe Castillano. The boutique was coined by the combination of two contrasting words Shabby, which means showing signs of wear and tear; and Chic, which means stylish and smart. The term shabby chic is used to describe the form of interior design where furniture and furnishings are selected for their age and signs of deterioration, or new items intentionally designed to attain an authentic antique appearance.
Since indie fashion is popular among teenagers, Ms. Cang decided to use the concept in her clothing line. At first, she started the business by selling pre-loved items online. After gaining enough capital and forming a partnership with Maryfe Castillano, the boutique was set up along Arch. Hayes Street, Cagayan de Oro City. After only a few days, Shabby Chic has already gained quite a number of loyal customers.
There are several factors that draw customers to Shabby Chic. The simplicity of the place and the wide variety of trendy and durable items are only two of the reasons for its popularity. Their items include brand new, pre-loved, ready-to-wear and imported clothing – from class A to C. They also have clothing lines for men and children. All their items are tagged at affordable prices that range from PHP149 to PHP1,299.
Shabby Chic accepts purchases arranged on a consignment basis. There is also a one-month lay away plan for those who are interested. The boutique is also open to accepting products and original designs from local fashion designers. In fact, boutique promotes the Tatak Kagaya-an clothing line.
In addition, Shabby Chic supports renowned beauty photographer Melson Bolongaita by allowing him to use the boutique’s unique fashion line.
Last September 4, 2010, Shabby Chic was one of the participants for the 2nd FAZIONISTA event that was held at Hotel Conchita. The fashion show allowed Shabby Chic to show off their unique line of fashionable clothing items.
