The Black Jug was one of our companys first town pubs, but has actually been a hostelry since the year dot - here is a particularly lyrical poem written in praise of the pub in 1847:
"When our week’s work is over, to the Jug we repair,
For we always enjoy ourselves when we meet there,
We laugh, talk and smoke and sing with such glee,
No party elsewhere half so happy as we."
