In the fall of 2013, four local businessmen from Hendersonville, North Carolina set out on a journey to start a local hard cider company in the heart of apple country. Not only did they want to make great tasting local hard cider; but they wanted to give back to the community where they grew up and continue to live. With those two ideas and a cider press purchased, they began the process of fermenting freshly pressed apple cider from orchards owned by them and many other apple grower friends in the area. The first year was a real learning experience and resulted in four partners becoming two... Jim Revis and Jim Sparks. 2015 brought an unprecedented amount of cider production as Flat Rock Ciderworks became more and more popular with local hard cider drinkers while expanding in other areas of WNC. It also led to opening our tasting room in 2016 and developing new and interesting cider flavors. For Revis and Sparks it is extremely important that their cider be crafted from locally grown apples and that is something that they will never change. They grow their own apples and blackberries in Henderson County to ensure their cider stays local from the tree to the tap. With their ciders winning multiple awards across North Carolina, Revis and Sparks show no signs of slowing down. Starting as a humble small cider operation, they are committed to maintaining the original core values of Flat Rock Ciderworks as they grow the company.
